- Tanzania -

Tanzania is the world's 31st-largest country, and is slightly more than twice the size of the state of California.
The topography is mountainous in the north-east, where Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest peak, is situated. To the north and west are the Great Lakes of Lake Victoria (Africa's largest lake) and Lake Tanganyika (Africa's deepest lake,). Central Tanzania comprises a large plateau, with plains and arable land. The eastern shore is hot and humid, with the island of Zanzibar lying just offshore.

The importance of the environment in the economy of Tanzania can be seen in the country's tourism policy. The primary goal is to develop sustainable quality tourism that is ecologically friendly to the conservation and restoration of the environment and its people's culture.
Tanzania contains many large and ecologically significant wildlife parks including
Lake Manyara, most famous for its tree-climbing lions, the Ngorongoro Crater, the world's largest volcanic caldera and Olduvai Gorge, known as the cradle of mankind. The two most visited sites in Tanzania are the Serengeti National Park, generally recognized as the major wildlife reserve in the world, as well as Mt. Kilimanjaro National Park, one of the last great ice-capped equatorial mountains on earth.
