It is important that every participant is properly clothed and outfitted for success

This Equipment List is meant to help you compile your personal kit
Passport (valid for 6 months after the trip and have empty pages)
Secure Travel wallet. Photocopy of first two pages of your passport (carry separately).
Leave expensive jewelry, mp3 players, personal electronics and watches at home
Most of your gear will be carried by porters, from camp to camp. The gear carried by your porter should be 30 pounds, or less.
Large, water-repellant duffel bag with lock. Print your name clearly in large letters directly on duffel with waterproof marking pen. Your duffel will be carried by the porters on the climb. It and its contents must weigh less than 33 pounds. Note: A suitcase, or another duffel will be left at the hotel during the climb.
Good sturdy hiking boots, waterproof and broken-in
Medium size backpack with waterproof rain cover.
Sleeping bag rated to 10°F. Synthetic is better in case of rain but down is also fine.
Sleeping pad (ie. ThermaRest, or good closed-cell foam pad, ie. Deluxe Ridge Rest.)
Gaiters to keep rain/pebbles out of your boots.
Trekking / ski poles (telescoping/adjustable)
Climbing pants (wool, fleece, synthetic, etc.) NOT cotton.
Light hiking pants and / or hiking shorts. Supplex nylon works well.
Shirt(s) for hiking on nice days. Again, Supplex nylon works well here.
Wool or fleece sweater or synthetic insulated jacket
2 synthetic long john tops and 1 bottom. Synthetic fabric, NOT cotton (CoolMax Dryflo or Powerstretch.)
Rain Suit - Waterproof/breathable pants (full side zips are best) and jacket with hood
Rain poncho (nice for hiking in the forest if it rains, a cheap plastic one is fine). Not required.
Light gloves and also ski gloves.
Warm mittens for COLD summit day.
Warm parka (down or synthetic) REQUIRED. (It gets COLD on Summit morning!)
3 sets of socks
warm wool or fleece hat
sun hat
bandanna.
Good sunglasses. For contact lens wearers, ski goggles might be useful in windy conditions.
Plenty of sunscreen and lip balm (you are on the Equator!)
Two 1-liter wide mouth water bottles with at least 1 insulated cover / wrap
Toilet paper
Small bottle of hand disinfectant (Purell.)
Good headlamp with 2 extra sets of batteries and extra bulb.
5 large plastic garbage bags to pack gear inside duffels to protect gear from rain.
Camera and film -- Note: Each person will not need a camera, we will make sure we have enough cameras with extra batteries for the group.
Pocket knife. (be sure and pack in checked luggage) – You can share one with your tent partners.
Your own prescription medications – bring extras in case some is lost. Medications must be in current labeled prescription bottle, clearly identifying your name, doctor’s name and medication, with administration directions.
Personal Snack Food: You should bring some extra snacks for the climb, especially for summit day, and some drink mixes if you like these to add to your water bottle.
Tips for the porters are included in your payments, in addition the porters always gladly accept used shoes, clothes, gear, etc. that you might want to bring (like printed t-shirts) (optional)
Pencils or pens for the kids we meet (optional)
Casual clothes for travel/safari/meals in dining rooms.
