- The Xpedition -
Africa is a land of rich, wildlife diversity - which stands as an enigma to the rest of the world. What is this place where some of the last remaining animals of their species roam the Earth?
Our team of dedicated educators from Busch Gardens Tampa Bay has made it their mission to brave these wilds in order to bring you the camp experience of a lifetime. Over the next two weeks we will be giving you a glimpse into a world that few have had the opportunity to see - a trek through the tall savannah grasses, across ghostly landscapes of volcanic lava, and up to the summit of majestic Mt. Kilimanjaro - the highest freestanding mountain in the world at 19,339 feet.
As our bodies adjust to the increasingly higher altitudes - we’ll send back daily recaps of our adventures - giving you a front-row seat to a world few have experienced. We’ll also take you on safari in the Serengeti National Park where large predators - lion, leopard, cheetah and spotted hyena - remain locked in an age-old battle for supremacy. Daily, we hope to paint a picture of one of the last untouched landscapes of our time and offer an inside look at the full majesty of the African wilderness.

Together we will:
- Go on a Safari Scavenger Hunt to spot the Big Five - buffalo, elephant, leopard, lion and rhinoceros as seen above.
- Explore Olduvai Gorge, where archaeologists have discovered the fossilized remains of the earliest known man, believed to be about 1.8 million years old.
- Descend into a real-life “Garden of Eden”- the wildlife-rich Ngorongoro Crater - an area reminiscent of bygone days which inspires the continual migration of animals in and out of its short grasslands, swamps, forests and freshwater lake.
Starting in summer of 2013, Busch Gardens hope to be taking a group of campers to Africa for a summer like no other. Until then - join our educators as we go in search of the perfect WILD adventure!
